OmG! I’ve waited a long time to experience Maydan. It has won numerous awards (one is Bon Appetit’s No. 2 Best New Restaurant in America, 2018). People actually stand in line before it opens.
Maydan means “gathering place” or “square” often in the middle of a city.” This is a perfect definition because most of the DMV Travel Crew gathered together in DC on Saturday and had a feast. Boy did we FEAST! I think we ordered almost everything on the menu. I was so full, I could barely stand. So many colorful sauces, continuous fresh bread, golden beets, dandelion greens, perfectly seasoned shrimp, juicy duck kebab AND lamb shoulder. Oh my, the lamb…sigh. There was so much lamb, I got to take some with me. My starter drink was called the Jagal, rye with black tea (so refreshing).
The servers are attentive and willing to assist. If you try to get a reservation, ask for the cozy space with the gold table (totally perfect for our crew).
It was such a wonderful culinary experience. I’m already thinking about my next visit.
