Last Monday, I was invited to attend a fabulous Gaillac wine lunch at Restaurant Chloe. There were so many grapes I was unfamiliar with – White Grapes: Loin De L’Oeil, Mauzac, Ondenc; Red Grapes: Braucol, Duras and Prunelart. Gaillac is located in the Southwest of France, “on the inner part of the Tarn River at the beginning of the waterway that meets the Garonne River and leads to Bordeaux.”
As we entered Chloe, guests were welcomed with pours of Sparkling Domaine du Moulin NV and Domaine Croix des Marchants Demi-Sec. Both bubbles were made with 100% Mauzac.André Compeyre, Southwest Ambassador and Chef Sommelier/Manager at Aldo Sohm Wine Bar (so cool!!) guided us through the tasting. Ten different wines were perfectly paired with a delicious lunch (some enjoyed the hanger steak, I enjoyed the potato gnocchi, so good!).For me, the standouts were the Domaine Plageoles made with 100% Ondenc and Domaine des Terrisses, Terre Originelle made with 75% Braucol, 15% Prunelart and 10% Syrah (I had the pleasure to sit at the table with the winemaker). If you can, please try to find wine from Gaillac. You will not be disappointed.
