To me, a dream combination of wine tasting is a female winemaker and beautiful wine. I achieved both at Corison Winery. The owner and winemaker is Napa superstar Cathy Corison.

Even though it was a rainy day in Napa, walking in the doors of Corison made me smile. I mean how can you frown when you are greeted with a glass of aromatic Gewurtztraminer (Corazon).

Rita, our interesting guide, walked us around the winery and talked about the fascinating history of Corison. One pretty cool tidbit, is that the winery was designed by Cathy’s husband, William Martin.

After our tour, we were seated amongst the barrels to do a vertical Cabernet tasting (which Corison is known for). We had a lot of laughs and great conversation (thanks @orangeserpent) as we tasted the 2014, 2015 and 1999. Each wine had its own personality and were as dreamy as the next.

As the tasting came to an end, I knew I had to take some wine with me. I decided to purchase a 2014 and 2015. Even though I did not get to try it at the winery, I also decided to purchase a bottle of Cabernet Franc (one of my favorite grapes). If it’s anything like her Cabernets, I know it’s going to be fabulous!

The only thing I missed, Corison’s Cabernet Rosé. It’s already sold out.
