The Black is Beautiful Beer initiative is the brainchild of Marcus B, Founder & Head Brewer of Weathered Souls Brewing (San Antonio, TX). This was started as a “collaborative effort to raise awareness for the injustices People of Color face daily.” When Weathered Souls put out the call for their peers to join them over 1,000 breweries in all 50 States and 19 countries answered! How awesome is that!

On the Black is Beautiful Beer website, they have the base recipe for a high ABV stout, a printable label for cans and a way for breweries to join the initiative. The stout is designed to “showcase the different shades of black.” It is agreed upon that sales from this beer will be donated to local funds that support police brutality reform and legal defenses.

My Imperial Stout is a 10% ABV glass of chocolatey goodness from Cushwa Brewery Company in Williamsport, Maryland whose mission statement is “Exceptional Beer. Positive Impact. Respect.” The BPLB (Black People Love Beer) glass is from Crown & Hops, a Black-owned Beer brand and Brewery (a Brewpub will be opened soon in Inglewood, CA). I purchased my 4-pack from a Craft Beer store in DC for $25.

If you love beer, why not go to the Black is Beautiful Beer website to see if your favorite brewery is participating.
