Monday night I got to witness a panel of four bad ass Women in Wine – Elizabeth Parker, Williams Corner Wine; Ashli Johnson, Old Westminster Winery; Michelle Lim Warner, DCanter Wines; and Vanessa Cominsky, St Anselm DC. This event was held at DCanter Wines and moderated by Ashley and Dianka from Winona DC.
The guests were greeted at the front door with wine from Old Westminster Winery. I decided to try their canned wine called Carbonic. This is a semi-carbonic, natural, easy drinking, dark fruit, ready for Fall wine made from 100% Cabernet Franc (fermented with wild yeast & canned without fining or filtering & Maryland made!). I know some folks really aren’t fans of canned wines or nervous to try them but this one is definitely worth a try.
The conversation was easy flowing and full of expletives. Just the way I like it! I won’t go into full detail of what was discussed. But we all agreed that we are looking forward to the day when you no longer have to use the phrase “Women in Wine.” When there will not be a need to think about gender. It will just be Elizabeth, Regional Sales Manager; Vanessa, Sommelier; Michelle, Wine Shop Owner; and Ashli, Winemaker.
As Ashli said perfectly, it’s about changing “mannerism and mindset.”
Okay, people let’s get to work!
